GRENZENLOS TOUR 2002

Marlene Schuen

Marlene Schuen

Marlene Schuen was born in Bruneck, Italy in 1979. From a very young age she was singing and playing music with her family. Marlene attended primary school in her home village of La Val and when she was 8, she began violin lessons under the tutelage of Erich Feichter. After attending middle school in St. Martin in Thurn and the Humanist girls' grammar school in Bruneck, Marlene finished her time at school after completing her Matura exams. Musically, Marlene was active in the youth orchestra led by Stephen Lloyd and Irene Troi (who later played the violin for Hubert von Goisern on Fön), as well as playing concerts at home and abroad.

Between 1998 and 2000, Marlene studied concert violin at the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium in Innsbruck and began a course in jazz singing. Aside from music, Marlene went to the Leopold-Franzens Universität in Innsbruck to study philosophy and psychology. Since 2000, Marlene has studied for a diploma in jazz singing at the Richard Strauss Konservatorium.

Marlene has also been active in various bands and combos as well as with the gospel choir Wings of the Heart. She has made appearances on ZDF, ORF and RAI playing chamber music with her brother and sister and folk music and Ladin folk songs with her family.

In April 2002, Marlene took part in the Wiener Kulturtagen and in May she joined Hubert von Goisern and band on the Grenzenlos tour as singer and violinist. Marlene remained with the group until the end of the 2003 tour and in January 2005 took Monika Drasch's place in the Trad II band when they played with Hubert von Goisern at the Festival in the Desert in Mali.
