KARLHEINZ BÖHM GALA
Hubert von Goisern live at the gala

Frau im Spiegel March 2003

Hubert von Goisern

A birthday boy and two fulfilled dreams

Kleine Zeitung 11th March 2003

Honour to those who are entitled to honour: nobody wanted to escape the gala presented by Arabella Kiesbauer in the Helmut-List-Halle for Karlheinz Böhm, probably the most famous 75 year old in the city of Graz. In order to appreciate the life's work of the Menschen für Menschen initiator, even Caritas president Franz Küberl showed himself in public for the first time after his recovery. In the end Böhm showed him "how much one can move with consequence and obstinancy". So much that the singer Senait, who comes from Ethiopia and now lives in Germany, has dreamed of only one thing since her childhood: "to be able to personally experience these people", as she explained with tears of happiness in her eyes. Just a few minutes ago her dream had been fulfilled.

The GAK president Rudi Roth fulfilled a quite different wish. He was present as a passionate Gloria Gaynor fan. In order to sneak backstage shortly before her appearance with an old I Will Survive record to get an autograph. "I always listen to the number before difficult meetings," he revealed after a successful hunt.

Among the star guests were also the singers Hubert von Goisern and Gerry Friedle. As an extra for the birthday boy, the latter had left his cap as well as "DJ Ötzi" at home. "I am simply proud to be here." From LH Waltraud Klasnic and mayor Alfred Stingl there was another generous 100,000 Euro donation for the finale.

All the best, Karlheinz Böhm!
