30th august - km 1850

inflow of the morava river, austrian border. the slovakian flag makes way for the red-white-red, I play a fanfare on the cowhorn and we are home again. although I have to admit that I have had the feeling of being back again since bratislava. I think it's the rainy weather and the regulated riverbank that accompanies us. we have the danube for another 3 days - and it has us. 3 days and nights its water will still flow beneath us, for three days it will carry us, rocking, gurgling and murmuring us to sleep. after about 75 days on the ship it will be a strange feeling to come home, to sleep at home. I can't imagine it. and yet I'm really looking forward to it. next door to my cabin is petra's kingdom - the video editing room - through the thin walls I hear sounds and noises, interviews, voices from the previous days, in there the tour is coming to an end once more. when you go into the room you see the pictures too, sometimes there are three different places and meetings on three different screens.

in the evening we're in vienna: our excitement is contained. partly because vienna turns its back to the danube and this back has nothing attractive to offer. the first signs of disintegration, welcomes from friends and relatives...
